Marihuana Strain Names Are Meaningful

8

Enjoying marijuana strains like wine enthusiasts do.

A foremost cannabis expert, who held a federal government exemption to grow any kind of cannabis he wanted, claims marihuana strain names are meaningful. Bud name’s provide people an opportunity to identify cannabis characteristics that should be associated with a particular kind of pot.

Recent reports by LA Weekly stating Marijuana Strains Like OG Kush Are Meaningless, Expert Says are schwag and conducted with questionable science. I’m an expert too, having reviewed, photographed and in some cases grown some of the 150 cannabis strains in Marijuana Smoker’s Guidebook.

Growers will tell you, cannabis has distinct characteristics that make strains unique. Unfortunately prohibition plays a tremendous role in distorting everything – especially cannabis science. PhD chemist Jeffery Raber sounds like a smart fellow, but he doesn’t take into account prohibition in his thesis. Many of his discoveries can be easily explained. Prohibition is hard to account for scientifically, unless it’s counting people in prison.

Raber argues and I do too by the way, “what’s being sold as OG Kush in one shop could be something completely different in another.” There are plenty of possibilities, prohibition being one, that Raber discovered these differences.
The science is easy, you don’t need a PhD from USC to do your own strain study. Raber purchased different kinds of OG Kush strains from various California dispensaries. Naturally a nug novice would think they would all be similar – after all they’re labeled OG Kush.

However, you don’t need a PhD to know what happened next, readers of Marijuana Smoker’s Guidebook know, “Every dealer has it [OG Kush] even when they don’t.” In world when every brand faces fakery, even OG Kush has its knockoffs.

Prohibition ensures pot shops and dealers aren’t beholden to anyone when it comes to their labeling and for that matter neither are marijuana seed companies. Mislabeling is not happening everywhere, but it is a seedy industry. There’s a percentage of med pot on dispensary shelves knowingly or not mislabeled.

Then there is this even bigger possibility. An easy Seed Finder search turns up eight different types of OG Kush being offered by cannabis seed breeders. At the very least a dispensary could offer eight different types of OG from reputable seed breeders.

I agree there’s plenty of wrongfully named OG Kush marijuana strains. It’s a seedy industry!

Growing up in the Garden City I learned all about grapes. There are several varieties of grapes, but there are even more wineries to varieties. Much like a winery, dispensaries and seed breeders are offering their take on OG Kush.
Taking a wine enthusiasts approach to cannabis opens our eyes to marijuana strains in ways that can only be documented through human skills. These skills are easily developed and honed over time by toking (and growing) a variety of cannabis.

Only the most popular of pot will achieve multiple knock off status. Granted this confuses the marketplace and people like Raber, but there are ways to overcome this shortcoming.

By becoming an educated cannabis enthusiast you will learn what to expect from something labeled OG Kush, Trainwreck, LA Confidential or Chocolope. An in the known enthusiasts seeks out specifics that should be found in the strain. Cannabis consumers can educate themselves about what to expect from a strain labeled OG Kush, LA Confidential or Exodus Cheese.

There are numerous marijuana review sites, people documenting their tokes on Tumblr and YouTube and my own guidebook. All three marijuana strains have distinct aromas, effects, and flavors that people would be able to tell and experience the difference.

Applying science to strain sampling is akin to applying science to wine sampling. It doesn’t work because there are some things science can’t measure and toking is one of them.

Naturally, you’re going to find tremendous amount of differences with a strain like OG Kush and it isn’t even the most replicated – Skunk #1 and White Widow have even more versions. Raber should find less retail difference from strains that do not have multiple seed breeder offerings.

The strain hunt would be way more challenging. A person would have to purchase, an LA Confidential at one place, document it, then find an LA Confidential at another dispensary and do the same. Repeat. They should find similarities and a few subtle differences based on grower technique, medium and nutes. Give two different growers the same clones and they’ll come back with slightly different results.

Marijuana strains may not be distinguishable using Raber’s science, but then again he’s a chemist and the study of plants is botany.

Marijuana Smokers Guide Cover Selection

12

Not what I was expecting! Ganja gawd damn, the design for my debut book is smoking hot. I received an email this morning from Green Candy Press about their challenges in picking a marijuana bud shot for the cover of Marijuana Smokers Guide – The Easy Way To Identify and Enjoy Marijuana Strains. I figured they would send a few photos to look at, but instead the art department mocked up fifteen examples of what the cover could be.

Then again the art department did receive hundreds of marijuana photos to choose from. In an era of Instagram it’s important to jam pack a pot book with photos. The art department taught me how to photograph marijuana and I shot up a storm.

Posing the pot for multiple angles, taking solo weed shots, group photos, and adjusting my focus lengths. The one consistent was my setup and once I began whole afternoons would be spent toking and taking weed photos.

Plenty of people have pre-ordered Marijuana Smokers Guide and expectations are very high. So I’m going to leak the fifteen different cover choices in PDF format and ask the people who are going to be buying the book what they want.

Open the PDF file and leave a comment.

Green Crack Marijuana Reviews

6

Some stoners are truly offended by the name, but its probably the same stoners who are offended by the use of the word ‘marijuana’ instead of ‘marihuana.’ There’s plenty of great rumors regarding this sativa indica cross, but Seed Finders has some great Green Crack strain info. Regardless of its name, the sample I acquired during The Mernahuana Show 420 Swap had some great potency and flavors.

image

image

There’s a kush-y like taste to this fab cannabis strain that is not too overpowering on the kush flavors, but has fantastic hints. The first volcano vaporizer bag produced a great toker taste that did linger for a while.

image

image

The effects of this specific sample was zippy body buzz and I started busting out some serious chair dancing. A perfect balance between indica and sativa, but depending on how it is grown will really vary. I’ve written three Green Crack marijuana reviews on this strain and sometimes its more sativa and other times its more indica. All depends on how it is grown.

Marijuana Review G13 Haze

7

Be prepared to be lit up like never before. A soaring sativa that’ll surely fire you up like a North Korean rocket test. An awesome marijuana strain selection for this depressing hectic time of year. G13 Haze is really going to eliminate any depressive feelings you may have about a New Year.

The smell is weedy wonderful. Not spicy like a Haze sativa, but it’s a challenge to actually describe the beautiful dank. It has a great G13 ganja smell that is coming in loud in clear on this sample. Once you bust a bud you’re going to notice how amazing it is.

Careful G13 Haze doesn’t make you cannabis crazy because the zip is pure straight to the moon. Once you get there be prepared for a serious munchie attack. Do not weedy worry because you’re going to float to the cupboard and fridge and clear it out. I found myself at the local fruit market buying a fresh load of goodies.

About the only downfall for this cannabis strain is it causes me to be easily distracted. It’s difficult to focus on just one task, my mind was racing in every direction, kept updating my Twitter and checking my Facebook instead of writing the marijuana review.

Marijuana Review Cannasutra

1

image

What a great score this Delta 9 Labs CannaSutra turned out to be. My interest was instantly piqued the moment I saw this marijuana strain on the menu. I’m currently growing Cannasutra, but have never written a marijuana review about it. In fact I haven’t even inhaled it before. Now I love her!

image

image

All I can say is it’s truly incredible, especially for an indica. The high is clear headed, creative, yet keeps you glued in spot. We thought originally we had inhaled a potent sativa and you probably will too, but trust me your ass isn’t going anywhere while your mind enters the marijuana matrix. This is perfect pot for chatty sessions with bud babe before it settles down into a smooth indica buzz that may lead to getting it on. I’m going to compare the zip to Barney’s Farm LSD, because it has such a fantastic creative couchlock that I’ve only really experienced with that particular cannabis strain.

What I really want to nail down growing Cannastura is the otherworldly weed taste. Possibly this is one the best buds I’ve inhaled taste wise all year. Just popping! Cannasutra lit me up amazingly.

Ultimate Indica Marijuana Review

0

Sometimes referred to as LUI, Legends Ultimate Indica has a fantastic flavor for such a downward stone. Note wake and bake enthusiasts make sure your coffee is made before rolling a spliff because this potent pot is going to knock you on your ass. Best, this marijuana strain packs awesome sweet flavors – especially this particular sample.

image

image

The Sweet Tooth side really came out to create a really honied sample. I haven’t tasted a LUI this yummy before. Usually it’s more potent in the stone than in the toker taste, but this one was different. While the taste was very pronounced, the potency was slightly lacking compared to other samples I’ve inhaled.

image

image

That’s disappointing because Ultimate Indica is exceedingly sluggish, heavy eye lidded and great for sedate sessions. People with pain issues tend to choose it for its wonderful pain relieving properties and hint of flavor. This time it has great taste, but just comes up shy of a great stone. Too bad too because this had the possibility of being stellar standout pot.

Purple Kush Marijuana Review

14

This is my fourth purple kush marijuana review I’ve written since 2010. Like the other three, the potency is spot on. A powerful pain relieving slow-you-down indica with a fantastic heavy taste. I’ve been smoking plenty of 60/40 hybrids lately and really needed a pure on couch-locking assault that only kush could do.

image

image

Obviously anticipate some serious couch lock, but purple kush taste is very intense too. It aggressively attacks your toker tastebuds with the best kush flavors possible. Potheads love PK because the taste lingers for, well not the length of the stone, but a good long time when grown correctly.

image

image

Pot snobs often mock marijuana enthusiasts hitting the PK because it so widely available. After OG Kush, I’d say Purple Kush is the second most popular kush but I could be weedy wrong.

Northern Lights Marijuana Review

2

image

One of the first stable cannabis strains, Northern Lights has had plenty of different incarnations over the years. A whole number system has been created to describe the various strains associated with NL. Apparently, up to a 11 different varieties were labeled Northern Lights marijuana, but their history, like most cannabis lore, is very hazy.

image

Many of the originals were pure landrace indicas, but Northern Lights #2 apparently had a Thai sativa infused with it. Northern Lights #5 is apparently the ganja genetic building block for M39. I don’t know. The version I purchased had plenty of sativa properties, most notably in the buzz. It produced a very zippy uplifting soaring stone with some indica pain relieving properties.

image

Buds were very bright green, well manicured and cured. Breaking up beautifully for a session and releasing a small scent. Not much of a smell, which is surprising given the sativa aspect. Overall Northern Lights is a great day time toke.

Marijuana Reviews God AK47

1

Toke about dense marijuana buds, God AK47 from award winning seed breeder Jordan of the Islands, has some of the best bud density I’ve ever seen. And I’ve written over 150 marijuana reviews. These nugs are massive that just a few buds easily create a half ounce. Even better, only a little bit of bud is required to get a great active stone on.

image

Your stash is going to last because God AK47 has a wonderful weedy zip and powerful body buzzing properties. The sativa side hits first before settling down into a nice relaxing slow stone. The high is a perfect hybrid blend, probably because it’s a cross of God Bud and Serious Seeds AK47, two marijuana strains that have won multiple cannabis cups.

image

Though not as yummy as straight up God Bud, in my opinion, the toker taste does linger for a solid amount of time. Longer than many other types of marijuanas I’ve inhaled lately. This is a highly recommendable cannabis strain because its effects are going to go the distance for most doobie lovers.
