Busy, busy, busy. That’s how we roll at Pimp Pot Palace. Well at least me. A bunch of projects that were moving along – like Mernagh site redesign, 420Wrestling, Ugly Duckling Pilates and HashMob websites – took a back seat as I wrote Bylaws, Not Busts for NOW. The article turned out awesome. It’s the first NOW article I’ve written in the City of Toronto. That’s because when I was seriously contributing cannabis, war resisters and the weird and crazy I was residing in Niagara. The Creative Wellness Centre and Ferret Reserve was an excellent live work space. Ideal for writing and growing.
Growing marijuana and writing are the two big personal loves of my life. Both activities bring me incredible deep self satisfaction. They play off each other really well. When it comes to thinking an idea through there’s nothing like gardening to relax your mind. I’d spend time watering, pruning, or even just sitting listening to my marijuana plants, while pondering a heavy idea. Like using city powers to license compassion clubs.
Gardening is one of the few activities that quiets my mind.
But I’m not doing it now. Makes me feel odd not to be around marijuana plants. So I took up 420 crafting, meditating outside and urban adventure walkabouts. Nothing like sitting under a tree unwinding your mind.
Fascinatingly a doctor told Health Canada, patients who are growing their own medicine have a placebo effect. Gardening is relaxing them. By growing marijuana they’re taking control of their illnesses. I’m not going to pull out the quote today because it’s in a pile of court documents that we’ll use to defend me.
Not writing and growing for the past two years has been very difficult.  I’ve been constantly thrown into a hurry up and wait over my criminal code constitutional challenge. Attending court every four to six weeks is draining after a while. Not seeing progress.
Like me print media has gone through dramatic changes in last two years. Cannabis Culture stopped printing issues. Writing for publisher Marc Emery was an awesome challenge because he wanted the words to be your personal best every time. I’m still left wondering if my best print writing days are behind me. Digital doesn’t do it for me like print does, because I bleed ink and THC.
However, the Mernagh site is celebrating it’s second year. I’m happy with its development, and my other web properties, but until they reach their full potential I won’t be fully satisfied.  It took a while for me to figure out what the goals even were!
I’m discovering how to enjoy digital media, again, by collaborating with digital agency Pixel Dreams on web projects. They’re opening my creativity to new directions. Marketing doesn’t have to be evil, but it does have to be intelligent.
Reflecting on my year – I turn 37 Saturday August 28 – I’m recognizing the incredible challenges I successfully faced. The changes I’ve had to make. Living up to my old motto of Battling! Striving! And Surviving! There’s a new credo written on the wall of my creative space (not the one below) because I’ve evolved. I’m ready to go further.
