Toronto Gets Dazed & Confused

Organizing a summer event for stoners has been a cannabis challenge for Toronto tokers, who seem to have plenty of energy at the start of pot protest season, but none in the middle. This summer is different! Toronto Hash Mob is going to simply crash City Cinema at Yonge and Dundas Square by inviting everyone we know to smoke out the movie Dazed and Confused on Tuesday, July 3 at 8 p.m. After The Mernahuana Show a group of us will be marching from Yonge and Bloor with our bongs, flags, banners and megaphones to Y&D Square for the city outdoor public square premier of this awesome Richard Linklater flick.

July 3 Yonge & Dundas Square

It’s important we go out in full Hash Mob regalia because square management are promoting the subculture attendee aspect to City Cinema goers. Their objective is to bring subcultures to the square for regular Toronto citizens to witness without having to venture too far into the subculture to get their taste. This is a great idea because Yonge and Dundas Square is Hash Mob’s natural outdoor pot smoking environment.
Stoners know Dazed and Confused is a cannabis classic and it’s hard to deny Yonge and Dundas management are not slyly inviting us to attend. After all there’s a link from their site to IMDB, “It’s the last day of school at a high school in a small town in Texas in 1976. The upperclassmen are hazing the incoming freshmen, and everyone is trying to get stoned, drunk, or laid, even the football players that signed a pledge not to.” There’s two weed references in the movie’s trailer!
Clearly whoever was programming City Cinema is tipping their hat to the tokers who smoke out the square annually. Every year I inform management how much we like inhaling marijuana at Yonge and Dundas Square and this year we had approximately 5,000 potheads publicly puff down in protest Apr. 20, 2012. Our media play was international and I’m curious if management counted our attendance numbers to boost in their marketing figures. Though I’m opposed to applying for a permit to protest on Apr. 20, I’m not opposed to programming 4.20.13.
Join me in smoking out City Cinema’s Dazed and Confused, Tuesday, July 3rd at 8 p.m. Yonge and Dundas Square.
